Long and short about January for many is that even if snail walks – after a demanding yuletide – is to make it through to February, goals and resolutions in hand. That’s because time and days speed through the second month and, in no time, leap into March and not be fooled in April. We May need to believe that June will be the best mid-year goals met. The first half is gone, so hop into the supersonic, busy July and, with gusto, fly over August, aiming for the four embers to be crowned with success. Ho ho ho, again slide into the colourful, red, gold, silver and green clouds with mistletoes, rosy red cheeks, smiles and candies, piles of meat on the midriff and flabby excitement and rumblings in the loo. Then, it’s the New Year. “Behold a new day,” many say. ” Old things pass away. Begin again, even if it’s a slow sail. Around the usual route. The same cycle: Set more goals, and do it as in former times.
But let me say, come to the end of self. The year must ALWAYS be more of God and less of self, gratification and goals.
Less and less of self. More, until the self dies, and the new life is for Christ.
The Lord must teach many to number their days, living each day in wisdom and for His purpose, in His will.
“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” – Psalm 90:12
