Dear Lord,
Break up the fallow ground
Shake the shakeable in me.
Quiet the clanging cymbals within me.
Shut up, noisy bells on my heart and mind
Holy Fire,
Burn up the clods making my heart untillable
Water of life
Purge through the soil of my heart
Wash out the mess in my mind
Clean up the dust in my heart
Clean out dry bones
Cleanse the dirt and dead places
Until it’s new
A place of silence and holy fear.

Jeremiah 4: This is what the Lord says to the people of Judah and to Jerusalem:
“Break up your unplowed ground
and do not sow among thorns.
Circumcise yourselves to the Lord,
circumcise your hearts,
you people of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem,
or my wrath will flare up and burn like fire
because of the evil you have done—
burn with no one to quench it. (Jeremiah 4:3&4 NIV)
