Day 5: The First man

Today’s poem is not a “traditional praise” song. However, it acknowledges and honours the Lord for the great work He has wrought for those who fear Him. The Lord fights many seen and unseen battles for us. We face countless trials yet; He shields us from the scourging fire and from drowning in the river of affliction. Lean into Him, dear reader. Stand firm and never give in to fear. Today’s poem is inspired by the Books of Daniel 3 and Revelation 2:10.

***

I see four men lifting banners in the fire

I see four men singing Hosanna, hallelujah.

I see four men with gold plaques engraved on them, which is righteousness.

They wear a crest on their chest and a victor’s crown on their heads.

Overcomers, they are called, those who

Have stood for ten days in the sun and rain and

Have refused to bow to human gods and images.

Jesus, the first man, has conquered death and given victory.
