My God, My everything

I am sharing another entry from PsalmSongspiration. Read more about it on my website.

PsalmSongspiration is a term I coined from three words: Psalms, songs, and inspiration—rooted in Apostle Paul’s exhortation in Ephesians 5:18b–19 (NIV): “Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.”

PsalmSongspiration is a compilation of thirty poetic expressions—songs of gratitude inspired by the Psalms and the words of the Messiah. It is more than a collection; it is a call—a stirring of the heart toward intimacy with God. It reminds us that the Bridegroom is summoning His bride to come into the inner chamber and commune with Him.

My God, My Everything

Each awakening, my heart overflows,

With awe and gratitude for God.

How do men exist without a loving Father?

I’m far from comprehending life without Him.

He is my rising, my very breath, my prayer and song.

He satisfies me, and with gushing love quenches my thirst

He breathes into me, inspiration and life

My final WORD, My ALL in ALL.

He is Lord and Saviour—my companion when I wake up.

He is my hands through the battle, my feet in the race,

My ears to listen, and my mouth for the truth.

He is all wisdom, in him resides all knowledge—

All understanding of the day’s task.

He is my doctrine.

What a GOD!

How few my words to hold the weight of His awe—

His sovereignty.

I call Him my Kinsman-Redeemer—

Only His pierced hands can clean my mess.

The husband of the radiant bride, the church.

I call Him my righteousness, my peace in this storm.

He is the sun in lighting up my morning—

Giving my cold soul heat.

He is the star that guides my night.

He is in me as I am in Him.

He is my glory, the lifter of my head

When sorrow pins me down

I sleep knowing He is my place of rest

I lie at his bosom, He is my bed,

My pillow, bringing comfort to the war in my head

My blanket in a world grown cold—My everything.

What a God He is to me.

Wordspiration

This poem is a quiet anthem of wonder—of knowing God not just by title, but by encounter. Like David, who called the Lord his Shepherd, his song in the night, his glory and the lifter of his head, we are invited to find God in the details of our own lives.

Scripture is rich with men and women who didn’t merely know about God—they knew Him:

  • Abraham called Him Friend and Shield (Genesis 15:1).
  • Moses stood before I AM and saw Him as Banner (Exodus 3:14; 17:15).
  • Gideon discovered Him as Peace in the middle of fear (Judges 6:24).
  • Samuel named Him Ebenezer, the ever-present Helper (1 Samuel 7:12).
  • David sang of Him as Light, Salvation, Counsellor, and Rest.

This is the invitation: not only to admire who God is to others, but to declare with conviction who He has become to me.

Who is God to you—not just in theory, but in the morning when you rise, in the battles of the day, in the silence of your night?

Prayer

Father, you are my breath in the morning and my stillness at night. You are my shepherd, my shield, my peace, my song. I don’t want to know you by another’s story—I want to walk with you myself. Help me to see you in every part of my life, and to name you as David did—not out of religion but out of relationship. Write your name across my days, and let my life be a living testimony that you are near and you are good. In Jesus’ name, amen.
