Profound lessons

Once during our family Bible study, we examined the life of Abraham as it would have unfolded today and discovered some profound lessons.

Abraham lived a long and satisfied life despite his many challenges. He had a fair amount of trials and difficulties. He made many mistakes; as a matter of fact, Abraham sinned. However, Abraham and Sarah believed, against all odds, that he would become the father of Isaac, the promised son (Romans 4).

This man ensured Isaac honoured the Lord in choosing a godly wife. Abraham lived a life of great faith not for material gains but one rooted in the God whose kingdom and reign Paul later described he was looking forward to (Hebrews 11).

Abraham lived by faith, and his actions proved it.

There’s a tendency that the older we get, the less faith we possess. Today, logic, human philosophy, deceit, and lukewarm attitudes bombard believers. It gets even harder to convince many that we should live by certain standards of faith.

There’s also lethargy and hopelessness. A lethargic attitude affects almost every area of life and can make one not see hope. But that wasn’t Abraham.

He believed God that with his dying body, he would have a son. He BELIEVED. And God credited it to him as righteousness. (Romans 4:16–24)

He obeyed the Lord by sending away the children of his wife, Ketura and concubine, Hagar so that the son of the promise would possess the land God gave and run for God’s purposes.

Ha! I pray we live by faith (not presumption or fear). I pray we will always trust and obey God. May the Lord persevere us, helping us to run the race set before us in faith.

May the daily challenges and trials not discourage us from pressing more into God to receive His promises.

We will not, by his help, give up on the precious experiences and life we have in God.

May God keep helping us, amen.
