Writer’s Note
The Psalms and other books of the Bible inspire most of the poems you’ll find in this collection. As I grow older and draw closer to God, I find myself increasingly captivated by the Psalms. Each year, I make it a point to read through the entire book. In the past, I treated the Psalms as a quick read for days when in-depth study felt out of reach—just rhythmic lines, or so I thought. But not anymore. The Lord, in His mercy, has unveiled deeper revelations of Christ through the Psalms.
Scholars describe the Psalms as poetic verses, songs of praise, thanksgiving, and repentance. To me, they reveal God’s character, glory, rulership, authority, and His unfailing love for His people. They are prophetic utterances rendered before the Lord to instruct, teach, counsel, and guide. Remarkably, the Psalms are the most quoted book in the New Testament.
1 Chronicles 25 gives us insight into how David, Asaph, Jeduthun, Heman, the sons of Korah, and others prophesied with harps, lyres, and cymbals in praise and thanksgiving to the Lord. Under David’s supervision, they composed music skillfully and with spiritual understanding to be sung in the house of the Lord. These were men of intimacy with God.
I see the Psalms as the foundation stones of a noble house. David and the other writers tasted something eternal; they glimpsed God’s grand design. They foresaw and proclaimed the coming of the great House the Lord was building—Christ, the Messiah. Concerning Jesus, David wrote in Psalm 110:1 (NIV): “The LORD says to my lord: ‘Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.’” This verse is echoed in Hebrews 10:13.
New Testament authors, such as Matthew, the writers of Acts, and Hebrews, all referenced David’s prophetic words. Jesus Himself quoted the Psalm, as seen in Matthew 27:35 and 46, where He echoed Psalms 22:1 and 18; again in Luke 23:46, He quoted Psalm 31:5.
PsalmSongspiration is a term I coined from three words: Psalms, songs, and inspiration—rooted in Apostle Paul’s exhortation in Ephesians 5:18b–19 (NIV): “Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.”
PsalmSongspiration is a compilation of thirty poetic expressions—songs of gratitude inspired by the Psalms and the words of the Messiah. It is more than a collection; it is a call—a stirring of the heart toward intimacy with God. It reminds us that the Bridegroom is summoning His bride to come into the inner chamber and commune with Him.
Did you know that many Psalms employ repetition? These repetitions serve as tools for instruction, encouragement, and faith-building. Whether you feel discouraged, overwhelmed, or helpless, the words within PsalmSongspiration are meant to lift you—to breathe life into your heart, mind, soul, and body. You’ll encounter words of encouragement, deliverance, and strength to help you press on, and words that will deepen your walk with God.
Make every word in this collection your own and be blessed by them.
